Karusellmusik i 70- och 80-talets låtar: Inte "Here Comes the Sun"

Påståendet att The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun" (1969) innehåller karusellmusik är felaktigt – det är en 1969-års akustisk folkpop-låt med Moog-synthesizer (George Harrison), inte calliope/karuselltoner. Och det är inte från 70- eller 80-talet.

Faktiska 70- och 80-talslåtar med karusell-/calliopemotiv:

  • "Carousel Man" – Cheryl Lynn (1979) – Disco med bokstavligen calliope-intro.
  • "Merry-Go-Round" – The Hollies (1972) – Orgel/calliope-textur genom hela låten.
  • "Carousel" – Melanie (1971) – Folk med tivoli-orgel.
  • "Hurdy Gurdy Man" – Donovan (1968, men stor i 70-talet) – Karaktäristisk lyra/calliope-riff.
  • "The Entertainer" – Marvin Hamlisch (1974, från The Sting) – Scott Joplin-rag, calliope-stil piano.
  • "Wurlitzer" – The Shadows (1981) – Instrumental, tivoli-orgelljud.
  • "Calliope" – The Residents (1980) – Avantgarde, bokstavligen calliope-sampling.
  • "Carouselambra" – Led Zeppelin (1979, In Through the Out Door) – Synth/orgel som evokera tivoli-drift.

Varför tropen? Callioper (ångorglar) drev karuseller. Deras ljusiga, penetrerande, lätt avstämda ljud = nostalgi, barndom, skummelhet. Används i Pink Floyds "Jugband Blues" (1968), The Doors "The End" (1967), Tom Waits (konstant), Mr. Bungle, Gorillaz.

Så: Inte Beatles. Ja till Cheryl Lynn, Hollies, Melanie, Donovan, Hamlisch, Residents, Zeppelin – och otaliga filmmusiker (The Sting, Halloween, American Horror Story).
